Speaking of General Luo Lang, people under the age of 50 will not know this year, Musicians over the age of 50 probably don't know much. He is the founder of the new Chinese military music cause, the pioneer, is a big Yuan Xun.
Military music is a wind music, a large-scale playing band composed of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. It is a unique breed in music art and its status is not low. If it is an independent art variety, Stravinsky has written "The Symphony of Wind Music" for the wind music; the teacher of Prokofiev and the great composer of the Russian class, Miyakovsky, also wrote for the wind music. Dedicated to the Soviet Air Force's "Sixteenth Symphony." In the Chinese, Ozawa Seiji used the symphony orchestra to play the representative of American Wind Music, "The Double Eagle." If you play as a wind music, there is also the famous composer Susa is its representative. Because of its large volume and rhythm, it is often used in the wild or on the road. Therefore, it is called a military band in the military. It has probably been more than two hundred years old in the United States and Europe, and it is already very common.
The wind music entered China, and the earliest military band was said to have appeared in the army of Yuan Shikai and later Feng Yuxiang in the late Qing Dynasty. In China before 1949, the Kuomintang army had quite a number of military bands, and the music played was mostly a march of European and American countries. Some of these outstanding talents, some of whom were coached for the military music construction of our army after being liberated by our army in 1949, I was a teacher of the brass instrument in my childhood in 1954, and I was in Feng Yuxiang and Zhang Zhizhong. Mr. Feng Bingguang and Mr. Wang Baolin, who have served as military instructors in the military. When I was enlisted in the "Junle School Teacher Preparation School" in Shanghai in 1957, I asked Professor Hong Pan, who was hired as the highest military general of the Kuomintang after six years of study in Vienna, to teach us. In China before 1949, there were not many schools with such bands. I only heard that Tsinghua University had ever had it.
However, the construction of the military band of our army was basically blank before 1949. The military music business was truly established after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. Since the 1950s and 1960s, the large-scale military orchestra that stood and played on Tiananmen Square in the annual National Day ceremony was the representative of Chinese military music art. With the majestic military parade and the warm march, it is impossible to play foreign works, but all of them are composed by the composers of the military orchestra or adapted according to the mass songs of the time. At that time they were very conspicuous teams and had a major impact in the mass cultural music life. Its performance and creation has become a special art field that cannot be ignored in China's music industry. The major cities also follow Beijing and have their own military orchestra, but the scale will not be as big as Beijing. General Luo Lang is the first head of the People's Liberation Army Military Orchestra. He is the leader of all the work of organization, establishment, training, teaching, creation and performance of the new Chinese military music industry. He is also one of the composers. The military music cause of New China, which was established in 1949 and matured in childhood from the 10th anniversary of 1959, was the first outstanding founder and a truly worthy leader.
In the past 20 years, the National Day ceremony has stopped, there is no military parade and parade. People can still see them often in large-scale sports games, but the clothes are more vivid and powerful. But so far, in the history of contemporary Chinese music we have compiled, we have never seen the establishment, development, performance and creation of the Chinese military music industry, which is a unique cultural and artistic phenomenon and a special variety in the field of music art. The description, there is little or no special academic research and art criticism for her! The outstanding contribution to General Luo Lang has not been mentioned for a long time. In August this year, I went to the Army Day, and my article was to add to this historical blank. I also hope that insiders can continue to write articles to provide historical materials for research in this field.
I don't know General Luo Lang. In 1955-56, I saw him a few times far away. I was a small student. I couldn’t talk to him who was the head of the team. He probably didn’t even know me until now. But I have deep respect and affection for him, and it has been more and more unforgettable for decades. Because General Luo Lang has another important significance to me, this is the second meaning that I can't relieve the need to write this article.
In 1955, the whole army decided to expand the construction of the military music cause. In the General Staff Department of the Central Military Commission, the military department of Luo Lang was appointed as the director of the military. It was decided to establish a military orchestra, but it was also designed to train major military regions and The "Central Military Commission Military Music Command Academy" of the division commander of the division, from each major military region to each division, selected a trainee to study in Beijing. I was only from Linxia County, Gansu Province, which is located in the remote area of the 11th Division of the Northwest Lanzhou Military Region. One person was transferred directly to Beijing and became a student of the school. I was trained and took the opportunity to make my life. And the great turning point of the fate of music. My study came to Beijing in August 1955. I went to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in September 1957 and left for two years. From then on, I was able to enter professional music. This is an important part of my life. The learning phase of music. It is these two years that are equivalent to, but different from, the study in the middle school of the Music Academy, which laid the foundation for my life. Therefore, I have gratitude and nostalgia for the military music school, and this school was founded by General Luo Lang and served as the principal.
At that time, the military music school was divided into a one-year system of short-term training and a four-year system of key training, and a two-year system between them. I was assigned to a four-year program of about 40 people, with one class for every ten people. The content of our study is the basic music theory, the vocal training and the music appreciation in the first year. The teachers who are the teachers are the cadres of the original military orchestra who have studied through the Shanghai Conservatory of Music or the Central Conservatory of Music for two years, such as teaching music appreciation. Mr. Fu Jing, Director of Fan Zhiqing who teaches to sing and practice the ear, Mr. Li Xu and Mr. Li Yansheng who teach the harmony (the latter two did not teach me). It can be seen that it is fully prepared. As a commanding training, the school also stipulates that each person must have a musical instrument, and the teacher is the chief performer of the musical instrument of the military orchestra. They are all trained by the professors of the music school or visiting China. The professor of the musical instrument of the foreign band of the performance was taught. As a rhythm training, there is also a compulsory drum. Therefore, from flute, clarinet to trumpet, trombone, large and so on, each of the wind instruments has a complete system of textbooks and textbooks from the Soviet Union, all of which have a scale of 24 tones and a voice, and The technical huacai passage in the classic masterpieces. There is also a special ensemble training that is also selected from classical masterpieces. From this we also know that these are also textbooks that were used since the establishment of the military orchestra that began in 1950. It is therefore clear how well General Luo Lang started his military orchestra and his cultural guiding ideology. There was no interference from the extreme leftist thinking of the Cultural Revolution. I have heard many such high-quality works of Soviet and Russian marching music here, and I still remember so clearly! They are "The Expedition", "Glory Guards", "Leningrad March", "Dear Moscow", "Entering the Army", "First Cavalry Army" and so on. The music is strong, rhythmic, full of sound, rigorous, full of glorious pride and Russian national style. Although their authors are mostly referred to as second-rate composers, it is also known that the level of Soviet-Russian music is high. I still keep some scores.
More than what I learned in class: I came into contact with the students from the air force and the navy who had never been in Hainan, Northeast, Shanghai and Nanjing, and other places in the Northwest Army in Gansu. More knowledgeable than I have, I have greatly opened up my knowledge of life, especially the knowledge of music, which has made me more edified and more rewarding than ever. Looking back at the significance of my composition career, it is of great significance to understand a large number of works. Among them, there is a classmate from the naval military band who blows Bassoon. He is well-informed, high-powered, and nicknamed "the giant horse." He told me about Lao Cai’s "Sixth" and gave me great enlightenment. I still miss him after many years. At that time, the military orchestra had a good information room, and it was possible to lend records and scores. I only heard a lot of classical music here for the first time. Every Saturday, the school organizes you to go on an outing all day. I don’t go mostly. I make full use of these precious time and night alone. I use the school’s large phonograph, in the quiet five-story, empty classroom. I (have been with Cheng Shouchang many times) listened to a large number of classical symphonic works. After nearly a year and a half, I listened to the "One, Four, Five, and Six" of the Chai's Symphony, Glinka "Kamarinskaya", Bach "Brandon Package Concerto 1-6", Bayesian Symphony "One, Three, Five, Six, Seven, Nine", Dvorak "New World", Shubert "Unfinished", Mozart Symphony "Fortieth, Forty-one", Grieg "Pei Ergent's Suite One, Two, Mendelssohn's "Fingar Cave", Haydn, Verdi, etc., later I realized that these are the foundations of lifelong classical music. I heard tears from Chai's "Manfred" symphony. At that time, the school had very few pianos and was locked up. I used the extracurricular time, asked the custodian to give me the key, taught myself to play the piano, and taught myself three or four tutorials and "Small Sonata" in the first half of the year, and browsed the "No Songs" and several pianos that I could find. Albums and so on. At that time, many concerts of the military orchestra were directed by Mr. Ouyang Feng, who was worshipped at that time (he also had works such as "The Victory March". I heard that he was also beaten as a rightist in the future!), playing "Night Fantasy" Classical works such as "The Music", "The Light Cavalry Overture", "Roaring Old Bear", Richard Strauss "The Horn Concerto", and the "Heilongjiang Wave" and "Toy" were also heard and familiar at the ball at the time. Polka, "on the water wave", "two-disc dance" and other very light music works. There were also many art troupes from Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. I played the Polish folk songs of the Polish "Mazhovhe Folk Song and Dance Troupe", the male chorus of the "Hungarian People's Army Song and Dance Troupe", and the Romanian platoon. The "Hora" dance music, the "Soviet Red Flag Song and Dance Troupe", "The Sun goes down" and other excellent music dances, "Little White Birch" and "Swan Lake" are deeply impressed. Out of the heartfelt love of the second scene of "Swan Lake", "Scene", I began to explore the orchestration of the symphony and play the score.
These Eastern European art, the ones that have the biggest impact on me, are the “East German Police Playing Orchestra” visit to Beijing. They rewrote Richard Strauss’ famous work “Til’s Mischief” as a version of the band playing, I also Far from understanding this work, I only feel that the technology is very high and complicated, but the impression is so profound! Their commander Kaufman, their navy blue costumes, gold epaulettes and silver chain straps, and the entire concert impressed me so far. Today, we recall that these cultures and arts from Eastern Europe are the first to enter China. It was impossible to hear it before China before 1949, and how much we recalled the meaning of our young learning music at that time. Precious and important! All of this, if I am not in the military music school, it is impossible to learn.
The military band at the time was not narrow and there was an orchestra. I often become familiar with many classical masterpieces from the practice of various instruments, intentionally or unintentionally. For example, I listened to the practice of the trombone player and became familiar with Napoleri in Swan Lake. "Dance Music" and many other passages, from the clarinet practice, I am familiar with the music of "Northern Star" and "The Desire of Demira" in Glinka "Ruslan and Durhama"; I also often I listened to the Bayan music that the Bayan player practiced diligently, including the music of the "South Shore" and the performance of the big tube and the oboe. I know a lot from it. Music masterpieces. This is a harvest outside the school curriculum. From this time on, I also went to the music store to buy the scores of "Complete Works of Chopin", "New World" and "Chai Wu and Liu".
At that time, the school also organized the students to listen to various concerts. I have heard some concerts from the National Music Week. Among them are Liu Shiren, who is still a high-level performance of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and the chorus of Niu Ruilin’s lyrics, the German conductor Gosling. The "Fei Liu - Pastoral" by the Central Symphony Orchestra. I have also heard Zhang Ning and the commander of the "Alai City Girls Suite One and Two", especially the orchestral work "Tariki River" by Li Guozhen, the conductor composer Ge Guangrui, still has a good impression today.
There are often movies on weekends, and there are many selected music videos, such as Beethoven Biography, Singer Dalkelie, and Composer Ai Keer. I also served as the cultural committee member of the class. I also organized everyone to watch the drama "Sunrise" and "Thunderstorm" from the back hall of Wanshou Road, which is not far from the resident Wukesong Banbi shop. Peking Opera "Four Scholars" and "The Great Britain" . After we read it, we often walked back. Everyone talked about their feelings. It was really a pleasure!
One and a half years of study, extracurricular study or edification has a great harvest, but in addition to the vocal training and music appreciation, the course has not much effect, always feel that the course is shallow and the content is small and can not be learned, can learn There are too few things to come, and the time is getting more and more depressed. To this end, I was criticized by the leadership, saying that I am independent of the individual's selfish individualism. However, the political education at that time was "criticism was strict and dealt with wide". The class teacher criticized me and turned me to Shanghai's "Military Committee Military and Music Command Academy Teacher Preparation School". So I and Cheng Shouchang both left the four-year system in Beijing in January 1957 and took the train to Shanghai. There are many courses here, and the degree is high. I can listen to Professor Qiu Wangxiang's "Harmony", Professor Qian Renkang's "The Style", Professor Mao Yurun's "Singing and Singing Ears", and can learn from the Shanghai Conducting Orchestra Deputy Commander Lu Hongen. For the first time, the piano was able to listen to the concerts such as "Bei Wu" directed by Chen Chuanxi at the Majestic Theatre. This was a tense and pleasant study for half a year. Once, Shao Shengxun faculty said to me: "You should go to the music school!" I also thought: "I always learn these music, but also try to see how high the threshold of the music school is?" In order to take the Shanghai Conservatory of Music I worked hard to create a play of "Young Soldiers", and used the complicated "tricks" such as the changed chords and heavy chords as much as possible, and worked hard to recite history, geography, etc. Cultural Lessons. At this time, the military music school was ordered to cancel the suspension, requiring each person to return to the original unit. And I have already taken the upper voice, I can leave the army without going back!
Fifty years have passed! I am deeply grateful for the study of the two-year military music school in Beijing-Shanghai. I know that this is all under the sponsorship of Luo Lang, and I am one of the deepest beneficiaries of his career. I am also deeply grateful to Fan Zhiqing, the class teacher who transferred me from Beijing to Shanghai. His move is another important turning point in my life and music path. I also miss the teacher Fu Jing who first guided me to appreciate music. They are Mr. Enlightenment whom I always respect.
At that time, the works of playing music were only mainly adapted or adapted to the already influential military songs or folk songs. But this is the field, and today's review is also very successful.
